Sam got out of the car quickly and nearly ran up the stairs to his apartment. He fumbled with the key as he removed it from it's hiding spot in the small sheltering roof over his doorstep. His vision was marred by the tears that continued down his face.
The cats that ran by quickly didn't make Sam jump as usual, and helped him enter his room faster. He closed the door to avoid an invasion of cats, but left it unlocked so Zale could come in if he had followed. His steps slowed once in his room and he sluggishly reached his bed, which he then proceeded to flop onto face first.

Zale followed Sam a little more slowly. Honestly, there was something about being there that seemed ominous; he had no reason to follow Sam inside. If he wanted to, he could get into his car and leave right then. He had no obligation to stay. But as much as he wished he could just leave and not look back, he knew he had to go into the apartment and see if Sam was okay.
The worst part? He didn't even know what, exactly, he anticipated would happen, and he felt like an idiot for being so nervous about the entire thing.
Standing, he headed slowly up the steps of the apartment that Zale had entered, opening the door and sliding in quickly, just as Sam had, to avoid letting the cats enter. He didn't see Sam as he entered, but advancing a little farther into the house, he found him quickly in his room, laying on his bed. Zale felt terrible; was he still crying? Were things really that bad? Nervously, Zale sat down on the edge of the bed, placing a consoling hand on Sam's back.
"Wanna tell me what's wrong?" He whispered, voice barely audible, as if afraid to break the quiet that had settled over them like a stifling blanket.

Sam's tears stained the sheets with saltwater, and his hands were placed on the back of his head. He wanted to let things out, but didn't know what he wanted to keep in. His memories of his sister kept flashing through his mind, reminding him that he knew nothing of how she was.
He heard Zale come in, but didn't move. He liked having Zale with him now, because of what was going on. He didn't mind the shift of weight on the bed, or the hand on his back. Wanna tell me what's wrong? Sam thought that his ears had tricked him, because it sounded like his sister when Sam was seven years old. Yeah, I do. His voice was shaky, and he had all the intent in the world to let out his problems, even if it was to a Junior he met that day at lunch.
My parents had eight kids, and almost all of them were killed in horrible accidents at the construction site near our house. Me and my little sister were the last two left when I was left here. Sam reached over to his bed-side-table and opened a drawer. He fumble around in it then pulled out a tin container. This was all they left me with, plus a gift from my sister. He opened the container and pulled out a silver necklace with a silver rose on it. It's the last thing I have to remember her.

Even if it was Sam that Zale was supposed to be consoling, there was something oddly comforting about the situation for Zale as well. It really did seem abnormal-- the way his skin seemed to prickle pleasantly, for example, whenever it came in contact with Sam's warm skin. He knew it had to be all in his head, but still, it was impossible to ignore.
"I see." Zale murmured, eyes glued to the glittering silver rose pendant on the necklace. It was all Sam had to remember his sister by? As annoyed as Zale could be by his siblings, he had to admit, being separated from them and having only a material possession of theirs to help you remember them must have utterly sucked. "So why'd you come here, anyway?" [/blockquote]

It was supposed to be a family vacation, but my parents handed me this and the money you see still in that container. Then they left me trying to get my sister to leave with them. She didn't want to go, so as they dragged her away she threw this at me. He noted the necklace once again.
You're the only one I've told this. Not even my circle of friends knows any bit of it. It's just you, me, and my uncle who are in this country and know the truth. Sam broke down and cried again, remembering his uncle didn't visit him this month, because of illness. I'm sorry, it's just hard for me right now.

Zale could hardly believe the story that Sam told. And here he was, thinking all this time that he'd had the worst parents in history because they were so overbearing! Even if being interrogated about his whereabouts all the time and being watched like a hawk bothered him, he had to admit that having parents like Sam's would be a hundred times worse.
"Don't worry. It's best to cry and let it out instead of trying to hold it in." Zale said softly, knowing that if something was wrong and you tried to pretend that it wasn't, you'd only feel worse. "And, y'know, you're graduating this year, so there's always a chance you can go back to Japan and see her. Your parents won't be able to control you forever." [/blockquote]

Sam's tears slowed a bit. He realized what Zale was saying and wanted to hug him right there. He never thought someone understood how he felt. He slowly put the necklace back in the container and put the rose in last, setting it carefully ontop of the interlaced silver. His hands were shaking as he reached over to the bed-side-table again to put the container away.
Thanks for listening. I really needed your help. Sam sat up and looked over at Zale, his eyes red from crying. I might do that actually. I need to see her again. He was so desperate to see his little sister that he thought of leaving right then and flying out to Japan.

"Glad I could help." Zale said truthfully, smiling a bit. Honestly, he was glad that he'd decided to sit down with Sam that day; he liked the feeling the other male gave him, as though he was actually doing something important and helping this boy. Emotionally, Sam seemed slightly weak, probably a result of his parents' cruelty, and silently, then and there, Zale vowed to be his friend and try to help him. And not only that, he was so kind, so intelligent, so attractive...
"You should go when you can. I'll bet you anything she misses you just as much." Zale said softly, suddenly having to look away, blushing slightly. Did he actually just think that Sam was attractive? And while he and Audrey were dating! He didn't know exactly what he'd end up doing, but he knew that no good would come from him developing romantic feelings for another person. [/blockquote]

Sam smiled now, his first since before he started about his parents at lunch. Zale's presence was so comforting, it was easy to see they'd be friends. Sam felt at complete ease with Zale, something that was extremely hard for Sam. I know she does, if she's still alive. That's my major doubt still, considering how the others ended up.
He leaned back against the wall and looked over at Zale, which immediately reminded him that this was how he and Raiin were situated. He releaxed back and closed his eyes, he didn't want to think of that at the moment. You're a good friend. I'm not sure what would have happened if you didn't do this for me.

If she's still alive. Zale could hardly believe that Sam was seriously saying this, but thinking about it, if what he said was true, it was possible that she wasn't. The thought was strangely troubling. "I'm sure she'll be okay." He said, even though he wasn't.
Zale smiled slightly, trying to be reassuring despite how utterly confused he was. "I didn't do anything, really. It was you who decided to come out and talk to me. I only listened." He said humbly. He hesitated a moment, considering his next actions carefully before he decided to scoot a little closer, closing some of the distance between their bodies and leaning against Sam, hugging him loosely.
It's for him, I'm just trying to comfort him... nothing more. Zale thought to himself firmly, even though he wasn't sure if that was even true anymore. [/blockquote]

Sam felt oddly reassured by how Zale was acting, and doubly so by his words. Yeah, alright. I'll see her during break. It's beautiful during the winter there. Sam remembered the Sakura trees contrasting the snow with their pink flowers.
You offered to listen to everything, and you gave me a ride here. He smiled and closed his eyes, only to open them surprised at Zale hugging him. He knew it was a friendly comforting hug, but it felt more. Sam hugged him back in a friendly manner, not trying to impress anything on Zale.

It didn't matter that Zale had been the one to initiate the hug. When he felt Sam return it, he had the sudden realization that they were getting too close for comfort, and he tugged away sharply. If it hadn't been for Audrey, he might have felt more comfortable with the contact-- but the fact of the matter was, Audrey was very much a part of his life now, and he liked her too much to risk her.
"I'm really sorry. I shouldn't have." Zale said quickly, frowning slightly. "I guess I got a little too comfortable with you. I know you already have someone... and I guess I sort of do, too..." [/blockquote]

Sam was startled slightly when Zale pulled away. His mood had lightened for a brief moment, but now darkness once again presided. His smile faded slightly, and he tried not to reveal anything more. He understood exactly what Zale was talking about.
It's fine, I wasn't really thinking. Sam patted Zale's shoulder lightly before he stood up from the bed. I'm not sure what I have. At least not anymore. Sam's thoughts went to both Raiin and Lullabye at the same time. I'm sure you and Audrey will work out well.

ooc;; Welcome back ^o^
bic;; The situation couldn't have been more awkward. How could he even be here with Sam now, thinking and acting this way, when he already had a girlfriend? If it hadn't been for Audrey, he would have stayed in that innocent embrace, and his consience would have been completely clear -- because as much as he hated it, he liked Sam quite a bit.
He liked Alliance, he really did, but sometimes he hated the fact that the prep school was so full of beautiful people.
"I like you. I really do. I just can't deal with this right now... I mean, I... I like Audrey so much, and I want to see what happens between us." He explained softly. "But I want you to know that... I am attracted to boys, so if Audrey and I don't work out, if there's ever a time that you'd be willing to maybe... see if we'd... work together..." He shook his head. "I'm sorry. I'm getting ahead of myself..." [/blockquote]

Sam walked over to his closet, still listening to Zale's words. They had alot of emotion in them, but mostly just confusion. As Sam opened the closet doors he looked back at Zale. Hey, don't say you guys won't work out together, that's just like saying Coca Cola isn't good. He searched around for a while and pulled out a small box, almost like a tackle box. I'd like to see that too, but there are things complicating my life too... I don't know about what's really going with me, but something will happen, I'm sure of it.
Same opened the box away from Zale so if he wanted he could come over and look inside. The box contained all manner of knives, surgical tools, needles, syringes, and flasks, all in an organized way. He pulled out one of the flasks, it was empty. He set that down and pulled out two more flasks. One contained a red substance and the other a clear substance. He shook the red substace a little and poured it into the first flask, then did the same with the other flask.
